Teacher Jim Kimo Samuelson taps into his training from renowned ukulele players such as James Hill and Herb Ohta Jr. to get students strumming the easy-to-learn four-stringed instrument and, if they like, singing along. Classes are held Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday at 4 p.m. Groupon customers also get a $5 credit toward any ukulele ($145+).
Bignote Music carries electric guitars, but acoustic instruments are where its heart is at—from tiny soprano ukuleles to gargantuan double basses. The customers who play them are encouraged to stick around after their purchase for a variety of in-store events, from Hawaiian-music workshops to live concerts.
