With today’s Groupon: for $99, you get a full-day outdoor beginners’ rock-climbing course from Calgary Climbing Centre (a $208.95 value).

Calgary Climbing Centre teaches those well versed in walking on horizontal ground to adeptly crawl up vertical rock in the seven-hour beginner rock course. Granite grapplers are outfitted with all necessary equipment, including ropes, harnesses, and mountain-goat repellant, as they learn the basics of rock climbing on the forested mountain vistas of Kananaskis. ACMG-certified guides instill fundamental rope skills and provide well-timed coaching maxims, including reminders to look down occasionally so climbers can see how far they’ve come. Fill out the waiver ahead of time and save precious seconds that could be used meditating in the outdoor surroundings or chiselling a 30-foot self-portrait into the rock face.

Buyers of this Groupon must call and schedule the date they prefer within a month of purchase. Calgary Climbing Centre will then send a confirmation email with the itinerary and any supplies climbers should bring. Climbers are responsible for bringing their own food.
