It’s entirely possible that an avid paintballer could visit Capture The Flag many times over and never have the same experience twice. The 116-acre recreational paintball and airsoft facility offers tons of variations on the standard game of paintball—if such a thing can even be said to exist. For one, the immense plot is divided into 22 separate fields. Each has its own terrain profile, from densely forested hills to open flatland, and a collection of manmade obstacles, such as towers, abandoned cars, and blank easels for mid-firefight strokes of creativity. After choosing from an arsenal that includes six levels of paintball marker and three levels of airsoft rifle, the competitors must decide on the game itself. Here, too, there are plenty of options: capture the flag, last man standing, downed pilot, and foxes and hounds are all popular game formats year-round.

Even with all these variations on game play, there are constants. First and foremost, safety is the top priority. Every participant receives a face mask, camouflage, and chest protector; plastic-utensil bayonets are strictly outlawed. And everyone gets to refuel with all-you-can-eat hot dogs and water from the lodge, where groups can hang to take shelter from snow, rain, or aerial paint-bombing runs.
