Mountain View Bowling almost seems like a museum dedicated to the mid-20th century—except that most museums don’t let you hurl bowling balls at their artifacts. The 1950s come to life at this brightly lit bowling alley, where games of 5- and 10-pin bowling capture the history of the sport and an in-house diner serves classic burgers and sandwiches.

Indeed, it seems as is no detail here has been overlooked. Everything evokes a nostalgia for the past, from the vintage bowling shoes to the black-and-white tiled staging area. The alley transforms for retro glow bowling on Friday and Saturday nights, when a blue-tinted haze washes over the lanes and a nuclear air raid siren goes off every 10 minutes. But while Mountain View Bowling’s decor may be retro, the technology isn’t: flat-screen TVs display the automatic scoring for each game.
