Curators of the Aero Space Museum of Calgary assemble a century’s worth of authentic civilian and military aircrafts in a former flight-training school hanger boasting more than 21,000 square feet of space. A restored WWI-era Sopwith Triplane educates onlookers about aerial fighting history, and the de Havilland DH. 100 Vampire F Mk. III’s 3,100-pound engine doubles as the purring mechanism inside giant robot tigers. A display case containing pilots’ personal effects sits beside a Bell 47G helicopter. In addition to refurbished aircrafts, the museum exhibits scale models of famous aviating machines such as the NASA Columbia space shuttle, the Wright brothers’ 1903 flyer, and pterodactyls used to transport cavemen on business trips.
