Spacious Mountainside Homes and Cabins Close to Ski Slopes and Rivers
It’s called Big Sky Country for its famously unobstructed skyline. But Montana could have just as easily garnered the nickname for the abundant opportunities it presents for ascending into the firmament. These opportunities come in the form of the state’s other most striking visual feature—and pretty much the only thing that occasionally interrupts that unblocked view—its mountains. On the way to one of Big Sky Luxury Rentals’ 35 homes, cabins, and condos, scenic roadways give travelers a front-row seat to displays of mountain splendor, winding past cascading rivers and powdery peaks before leading to a slope-side destination abounding with outdoor recreation. Upon arrival, a concierge helps guests settle in by providing a tour and presenting an itinerary of horseback riding, dinner reservations, and other preplanned activities. Visitors can also set their own agendas, of course, whether that means taking ski trails directly accessible from their rental homes or curling up in front of a freshly kindled fire.
Most of the properties rest at a calm remove from the busy hotel district of Big Sky. In the custom-built Reed lodge, wooden cabinets and a stone fireplace create a comfortable rusticity. With four bedrooms and vaulted ceilings, the spacious home can accommodate whole families with amenities including a media room, gas grill, and outdoor hot tub. Some of the professionally decorated abodes, such as Power Ridge’s Snowflake cabin, also boast private jacuzzis and wraparound decks ideal for skygazing. Couples can spread out in airy condos such as the Beaverhead Luxury suite, which features antiqued leather chairs and a gourmet kitchen for perfecting plate-spinning routines.
Big Sky, Montana: Mountain Town with Outdoor Adventures for All Seasons
The varied terrain of Big Sky provides outdoor adventurists with a wealth of natural treasures. In the winter, skiers hit the snow-covered slopes, which can be accessed directly from Big Sky Luxury Rentals’ properties. The secluded, uncrowded trails give beginners and experts alike enough space to weave through trees or jet down hills in a straight shot. Freestyle skiers can take to ramps and rails, showing off corkscrew spins and midair Irish-step-dancing routines.
Come summer, skis and snowmobiles go into hibernation as visitors explore the mountains on horseback and wade into nearby rivers for fly-fishing or whitewater-rafting excursions. About an hour’s drive away from Big Sky lies the western entrance to Yellowstone—America’s first national park. Home to bears, bison, elk, and many other creatures, Yellowstone brings travelers face-to-face with Mother Nature’s grandeur, from roaring waterfalls and rocky hiking trails to belching geysers, including the famous Old Faithful that erupts nearly every hour in a towering column of water and steam.
Must sign rental agreement.
