Since C.P. Rail sculpted the first fairways in 1921, the course at Strathmore Golf Club has been a haven for golfers of all stripes with 18 challenging holes that feature open fairways and fast greens. With water hazards in-play on 15 of 18 holes, the on-course challenges reach a high point on the par-4 fifth hole, named the best hole in the city in 2011 by the Calgary Sun for its distinct layout and bowl haircut on the greenside fringe. Golfers have to aim their approach shots at an island green jutting out into a lake, almost completely surrounded by water. On the back nine, large bodies of water give way to large, elongated fairway bunkers and smaller ponds, which golfers must avoid both with their golf balls and their GPS-enabled Yamaha golf carts.
